Poland’s participation in the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble, France

On July 1, 2004, Poland officially became an associate member of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble, France, contributing 0.6% of the ESRF budget. Funds for this project were assigned by the State Committee for Scientific Research (KBN) and transferred to the ESRF via the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Polish scientists thus gained official access to this facility, which is the best in Europe and one of three in the world sources of high-energy synchrotron radiation, equipped with high-tech equipment.

On November 15, 2006, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education decided to grant special research project No. 155/ESR/2006/03 to pay a contribution to the ESRF in the amount of 1% for a period of 3 years.

On June 2, 2009, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education decided to extend Poland’s participation with a 1% contribution to the ESRF budget for another two years.

On December 6, 2016, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education made a decision No. DIR/PM/ 2016/03 to grant funds to the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IF PAN) to finance the costs of outstanding financial commitments to the ESRF, and decision No. DIR/WK/2016/19 was made to grant funds to the IF PAN for the continuation of Poland’s participation with a 1% contribution to the ESRF budget for the years 2016–2021.

On December 28, 2021, the Ministry of Education and Science made a decision no. 2021/WK/11 on the allocation of funds to IF PAN for the continuation of Poland’s participation with a 1% contribution to the ESRF budget for the years 2021–2026.
