AGREEMENT
On December 20, 2016, the official signing of an agreement between the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the European Synchrotron Centre in Grenoble took place.
Multilateral Agreement on the Establishment of a National Consortium
of Scientific Entities Interested in Using
the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble
MISSION AND GOAL OF THE NATIONAL CONSORTIUM
The mission of the National Consortium of research institutions interested in using the ESRF is to work towards raising funds to pay the Polish membership fee as an independent associate member, with a financial contribution of 1% of the ESRF budget.
The ESRF is the most modern, state-of-the-art high-energy synchrotron radiation source in Europe. This source provides radiation essential for scientific, technological, and applied research in the energy range from soft X-rays to gamma rays.
The goal of the National Consortium is to ensure the effective use of access to the ESRF source by providing information and training on access conditions and by assisting in the writing of proposals for proposed research.
ACCESS CONDITIONS TO THE ESRF SYNCHROTRON RADIATION SOURCE
The conditions for access to the ESRF synchrotron radiation source are regulated by the ESRF Statutes and are the same for all members of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility, including all members of the National Consortium. Detailed conditions are specified in the “Procedure for the allocation of beam time on ESRF beamlines for non-proprietary research (Annex 1).” In particular:
- Scientists from Poland may submit experimental designs individually or in collaboration with scientists from other countries,
- Measurement time will be allocated by the ESRF Chief Executive Officer based on the scientific merit of the project, as assessed by the Review Committee. Projects will be evaluated by a Review Committee composed of selected scientists, who prepare reviews for the ESRF Directorate,
- Scientific projects that allocate measurement time will receive technical and other necessary assistance, as is provided to projects by other ESRF Associate Members,
- Users from Poland will be reimbursed for travel and accommodation expenses during the experiment in Grenoble, in accordance with the rules applicable at the ESRF.
